:: Services
The ultimate goal of Alternate Shelter Society’s programs and services
is to reintegrate children and youth back into their communities and,
where appropriate, with their families.
In keeping with this goal, Alternate Shelter Society has offered and
continues to offer the following programs and services:
transition homes for youth in crisis
group homes
wilderness programs
special foster homes
on-going support for families
drug and alcohol counselling
life skills programs
supervised independent
and semi-independent living
We understand that building competence and self worth is a lengthy process that requires encouragement in different ways over time, so we endeavour to provide a sense of continuity and context in all our interactions with the young people in our care. We believe that the single most important aspect of our mandate is our commitment to increasing a young person’s control over all aspects of their life.
A primary principle that Alternate Shelter Society fosters is
that each youth is an individual. Individualized plans of care are focused
on each youth's needs. This is vastly different for each individual and
therefore the results will also vary.
