Employment
Registered Child and Youth Care Workers
Alternate Shelter Society employs Residential Child and Youth Care workers to provide care for the young people who are living at our resources. Normally new employees work out of our relief pool where they receive on-the-job training and performance evaluations. Our policy is to hire permanent staff from the relief pool though this is not always possible because of the specialized nature of our requirements.
There are no guarantees of permanent employment. Many factors come into play for our hiring decisions. Hiring is based on skills set, suitability (are you able to be a healthy adult role model?), education/training, experience and knowledge related to the child and youth care sector, and team work. No probationary period is completed without staff achieving the skills set needed to meet basic job requirements. Staff may pass their probationary period, but still be in the relief pool if a suitable permanent position is not available. All employees must undergo a criminal records check.
We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate. We are, however, protective of our youth. Only applicants with the necessary qualifications are considered.
